Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft

Line 1: Line 1:
Buckets are fairly expensive in Minecraft, especially early on, and not everyone has an ocean or lake next to their base. Luckily, you can create an infinite water supply so you don't have to walk across half your world to get a single bucket of water.
+
Buckets are fairly hard to obtain in Minecraft.  Especially early in the game.  A water supply is not always nearby. When you do get a bucket, you can use it to get water from any water supply and fill a hole you dug yourself to use as your own personal water supply.  This wikiHow teaches you how to create your own infinite water supply in Minecraft.

#Get two buckets. If you don't have buckets, mine some iron and smelt it in your furnace to get iron ingots, then craft the buckets. You can do this with one bucket, but it would take longer. [[Image:Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft Step 1 Version 3.jpg|center]]
+
#Dig a hole for your water supply. You can dig using your hand, or [[Make-Tools-in-Minecraft|with a shovel]].  It should be at least 2x2 cubes wide, and 1 cube deep.[[Image:Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft Step 3 Version 3.jpg|center]]
#Go to an ocean or a lake and fill the two buckets.[[Image:Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft Step 2 Version 3.jpg|center]]

#Craft two buckets. If you don't have buckets, you can craft them out of iron using a crafting table. On game consoles, open the crafting table and select the bucket from the Tools and Weapons tab.  On PC, open a crafting table and place an iron bar in the center space, as well as the upper-left and upper-right spaces of the crafting grid.  Then click and drag the bucket into your inventory.[[Image:Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft Step 1 Version 3.jpg|center]]
#Make a 2x2 square in the ground. It should look something like the image above.[[Image:Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft Step 3 Version 3.jpg|center]]
+
#*To get iron, you must first [[Find-Iron-in-Minecraft|mine iron ore]] from deep within a cave.  You then need to locate or [[Make-a-Furnace-in-Minecraft|craft a furnace]] and [[Use-a-Furnace-in-Minecraft|use the furnace]] to smelt iron ore into iron bars.
#Fill one corner of the space with the water from the bucket you just got. It should now look like the image above.[[Image:Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft Step 4 Version 3.jpg|center]]

#*If you don't have enough iron bars to make two buckets, you can get by with only one.  You'll just need to make extra trips to the water supply.
#*Fill the slanted corner up with the other bucket of water you have.[[Image:Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft Step 4Bullet1 Version 2.jpg|center]]

#Locate a body of water. It can be any river, lake, or ocean. [[Image:Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft Step 2 Version 3.jpg|center]]
#Voila! You have an infinite water source![[Image:Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft Step 5 Version 3.jpg|center]]

#Equip the buckets.  To equip the buckets, place them in your toolbar.  Then press the corresponding number on your keyboard, or use the right and left shoulder buttons on the controller to cycle through all items in your toolbar.  Stop when you get to the bucket.
  +
#Fill the buckets with water.  To fill a bucket with water, stand next to the water.  Place the reticle in the center of the screen on water.  Then either right-click or press the left trigger button on the controller to fill the bucket.
  +
#Dump water in one of the spaces of the hole you dug.  To dump the water, have a bucket of water equipped, and then stand next to the hole.  Place the reticle on an empty space of your hole, and either right-click or press the left trigger button to dump the water.  This will add a new water cube to the hole.
  +
#Water will flow out from where you dumbed it.  You will see sloping water in the spaces surrounding the cube you dumped the water in.[[Image:Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft Step 4 Version 3.jpg|center]]
  +
#Repeat for all additional spaces in the hole.  You may need to return to the water source and refill the buckets a few times  Dump water in each space of the hole you dug.  When you are finished, the water should be level with no visible flow in any direction.  When the hole is completely filled, you can get water from it anytime using a bucket.  The water will not run out.[[Image:Create an Infinite Water Supply in Minecraft Step 5 Version 3.jpg|center]]
