These Are The Absolute Most Comfortable Bras, According To R29 Readers

Comfort is undeniably the key to a good indoor outfit situation, whether that be in the form of a matching sweatsuit or some 24-hour pajama action. Bras, however, are not always known for fitting into the comfy equation (or for fitting at all). Must our chests be constrained when the crux of our current daily activity is limited to a slow and easy circuit from kitchen to couch and back again? While anything form-fitting might seem unnecessary these days, not all bras were made to leave you feeling constricted. A well-designed, properly fitted bra not only offers breast support, but it can also help with posture in addition to simply being a pretty, cozy way to hug one's bosom. All good things right about now.

That's why we've compiled a be-all and end-all list to the most comfortable bras you can buy, driven entirely by the valuable input of more than one hundred R29 readers. Knowing our audience is a savvy and vocal bunch with strong opinions on this topic, that's exactly where we turned for insight about what kinds of bras women are wearing these days and why they're top contenders for keeping comfortable while working from home. Our in-depth roundup features a list of the best boob supporters around for all kinds of cup sizes and preferred bra styles. From bras to bralettes and everything in between, discover a range of recommendations ahead made both for you, and by.

At Refinery29, we’re here to help you navigate this overwhelming world of stuff. All of our market picks are independently selected and curated by the editorial team. If you buy something we link to on our site, Refinery29 may earn commission.

Richer Poorer Women’s High Cut Bralette

Size range: XS - XL

Chosen by: Liz, 29 (+ three other readers)

Whose bra size is: I've always worn 34B (but I've been professionally measured as a 34C)

And loves this pick because: This is my current comfort-bra of choice. As someone with a small chest and broad shoulders, it's difficult to find non-padded bras that look (and feel) flattering on my proportions — but this style hits the mark on all accounts. It's an easy pullover style (crafted from a super-soft modal, cotton, and spandex blend) that fits supportively without feeling constricting and still somehow manages to look sexy (in a retro '70s kind of way). I've been wearing it underneath all my flowy spring tops, since it has a nice low cut, and even dared sport it solo on a patio for sunbathing.

Lively The Busty Bralette

Size range: 32DD - 40DD

Chosen by: Alden, 20 (+ three other readers)

Whose bra size is: 34DDD

And loves this pick because: Usually bralettes or any bras with no underwire do NOT work for me! This one is supportive, comfy, and so so soft! I'm always surprised by how well it fits.

Cosabella Never Say Never Curvy Sweetie Bralette

Size range: 28DD - 40H

Chosen by: Lanie, 31 (+ three other readers)

Whose bra size is: 32F

And loves this pick because: I’m actually surprised how well this fits. I usually wear a 32F and ordered the XS, and it’s really good. It makes a teeny tiny bump above the “cup," but it’s not disturbing. If my cup size was any bigger it might be a bit too small, but I’m happy with this fit. It’s really comfortable.

Size range: 30A - 48D

Chosen by: Mackenzie, 24 (+two other readers)

Whose bra size is: 34DDD

And loves this pick because: It’s a perfect fit! Cup size, straps, band. I feel supported while not constrained, and the design doesn’t make me compromise comfort for style. Long-term goal would be to find a wireless or bralette type of bra, but haven’t yet found one that is the right fit for both cup size and band.

It keeps me lifted and separated without wires or itchy lace or high prices. — Lindsay

Another R29 reader, Katie, age 33, recommended the True & Co. True Body V-Neck Bra as a similar pick from the same brand, saying: "so buttery soft and comfy! And loves this pick because: This isn't the specific bra I have, but it's closest one I could find since mine is secondhand! But I like that it has no underwire but still gives me some shape. Now that I'm not breastfeeding or pregnant, my boobs got very sadly deflated so I still like a little cup but no wire.

Another R29 reader, Mara, age 36, recommended the Relax Wireless Bra as a similar pick from the same brand
, saying: "soft and not overly binding." Mara wears a 36C.

Another R29 reader, Zoeann, age 22, recommended the Real Sunnie Wireless Lightly Lined Bra as a similar pick from the same brand, saying:"it feels better than a sports bra and looks like a real bra. Incredibly soft and slips right on. No clasps to irritate that one little spot on your back and feels sooooo smooth (my favorite part)... The straps are the ideal width and lay nicely. The inner lining is so smooth, and my underboob feels like it’s sitting on a cloud, which is usually a massive problem for me!" Zoeann wears a 36D.

Aerie Real Sunnie Wireless Push Up Bra, $, available at American Eagle Outfitters

Madewell Cotton-Modal Mila Padded Bralette

Size range: XS - XL

Chosen by: Charlotte, 34

Whose bra size is: 36C/D

And loves this pick because: I LOVE this bralette. I typically have a really hard time finding bralettes that fit correctly. This one is incredibly comfortable, cute, stays put, and the slight padding (removable) is just enough. It covers enough so that nothing is falling out of place, but not so much that it is not sexy. I know I am going to be living in this, both at home and while I am out and about! I ordered a size large. Fits perfectly.

Madewell Cotton-Modal® Mila Padded Bralette, $, available at Madewell

Calvin Klein Seductive Comfort Lace Unlined Bra

Size range: 32B - 40D

Chosen by: Amanda, 25

Whose bra size is: 38B

And loves this pick because: Feels like you’re not even wearing a bra! I’ve found it hard to find a lace bra that doesn’t end up looking bumpy under a t-shirt or sheer top but this one does the trick. So soft, no poking, doesn’t dig in anywhere — an overall super comfy bra with just enough support.

Calvin Klein Seductive Comfort Lace Unlined Bra, $, available at Calvin Klein

Marie Jo Avero Padded Balcony Bra

Marie Jo Avero Padded Bra - Balcony, $, available at Marie Jo

Auden Longline Lace Bralette

Size range: XS - XL

Chosen by: Kelsea, 32

Whose bra size is: 38D

And loves this pick because: I bought this initially for a cozy cabin weekend to go under a slouchy, off the shoulder comfy sweater, but since quarantine started I've been wearing it constantly (ordered a few more last week!). It's great because after a single wash it gets really soft and feels almost like a pajama top. It keeps everything in place for regular activities like working at a desk and cooking, etc. at home all day. And in red and black it feels kind of sexy (the double straps feel like a little something extra and the lace bottom is a nice touch) even though I'm home and not doing my hair or dressing up all the time. Also they're only 15 bucks so it was an easy, affordable way to treat myself!

Auden Longline Lace Bralette, $, available at Target

Underbares The U Bra

Size range: XS - XXXL

Chosen by: Jennifer, 26

Whose bra size is: 34D

And loves this pick because: It's somewhere in between a sports bra and a bralette that you can barely feel when you have it on. I'm obsessed, and I love the silky, semi-sheer mesh material — I don't have anything else like it.

Underbares The U Bra, $, available at Underbares

Madalynne X Simplicity 8228 Lingerie Pattern

Size range: 32A - 42DD

Chosen by: Eleanor, 23

Whose bra size is: 32DD

And loves this pick because: I've been sewing for years and recently have gotten into sewing lingerie. I know sewing lingerie appears intimidating and there is some trial and error. Once you figure out how to customize a pattern for yourself, it is the most luxurious thing to wear because it truly fits your body. The first bralette I made was a Madalynne 8228 view B which is has a racerback. I wear this bralette all the time!!! I have fabric ready to make another one because it is super comfy! Bralettes are a great intro to sewing lingerie because they help you understand the construction of a bra without worrying about underwires.

Underwires don't have to be your enemy, they just need to fit your boobs correctly. I just finished sewing my first underwire bra which is a Madalynne 8229 and it turned out really nicely. It is super supportive and comfortable. I am still figuring out my custom fit for this pattern and I will be needing to make a few minor adjustments to the pattern for the next one that I make to get a truly custom fit. The biggest thing I've learned from sewing my own bras is that the better the bra fits the more comfortable the bra will be!

Madalynne X Simplicity 8228 Lingerie Pattern, $, available at Madalynne
